Bicycling in New York City
Posted on February 17, 2008 by Roland
I just returned for a long weekend in New York City and two things amazed me, no snow and the number of people on bicycles. I saw a very significant increase in the number of people bicycling and with bikes on the subway, especially for the time of year and temperature (daytime high mid- 30s to mid-40s).
Part of the increase can be explained by the addition and bike lanes and big increase in bicycle route signs I saw in Brooklyn.
I hope my observations are valid and that the trend is sustainable. It would be a wonderful thing to see NYC become a bicycling friendly city with lots of bicyclist on the road.
