Yesterday, I fell for the first time in quite a while. Just a twisted knee and a bruised shoulder but major embarrassment. As I was riding across a bridge, suddenly I was on the ground and a little dazed. The diamond frame rider behind me asked if I was OK and then added “Nice ride”.
What [...]

Continued from Fixing the SlipStream Kick Stand and SlipStream Kick Stand Fix.
I have installed and ridden with the Slipstream Kick Stand Fix and have to say I love it. The kick stand is now firmly in place even when the bike is loaded.
Kudos to Greg Peek.

This is a continuation of an earlier posting, TerraCycle’s Long bikes Slipstream Idler Kit.
So what is in TerraCycle’s Longbikes Slipstream Idler Kit? The answer is simple, 2 idlers, some hardware, and installation instructions.
Here is the return idler with mounting hardware.

TerraCycle offers a Longbikes Slipstream Idler Kit that looks very nicely made. It replaces the rubber idlers seen on most recumbents with coged idlers that have high quality bearings. TerraCycle claims that the better idlers provide improved efficiency and quieter operation. This improvement is not inexpensive, $154 for the kit.
I agree with TerraCycle’s explanation of why [...]

The Longbikes Slipstream is a solid touring machine. My one disappointment has been the kick stand.
When I first got the bike I loved the Kick Stand, the two footed kick stand is like having a built in work stand. The bike sits securely on the stand.
Once I started loaded touring, my opinion quickly changed. [...]

Update:6/19/08 Lost another pad. This time the local bike shop adjusted my brakes. I had a flat and when I fixed it the one of the pads must have fallen out. It was obvious when I had no rear brakes. Take away - always carry a spare set of pads while touring.
On Monday, I finally [...]

The Loaded Coffin Being Weighted
I covered the selection of the shipping case in an earlier post “The Coffin - A Shipping Case for a LWB Recumbent”.
Now comes the moment of truth will it actually fit into the case. The numbers were pretty close.

I have been searching for a shipping case for my Longbikes Slipstream. The issue is length, the Slipstream is a little longer than most tandems. I think I have the answer but won’t be sure until the bike is packed and ready to go.

The Slipstream is an excellent bike but it does have few annoyances (this is how we make the bike our own). One is the way the front brake cable rattles against the top stay. This could have been easily fixed by adding a few rubber beads on the cable.
I would have fixed it that way [...]
