jeanne_icecream.jpgYou can see my pictures from the 2006 Tour de Ile de Montreal at Flickr.

There had been heavy rain the day before and the weather forecast was not promising but 30,000 riders showed up for what turned out to be a pretty good day.

The Tour de Ile de Montreal is a 48K or 32 mile ride around the city of Montreal. The streets are closed to cars and all types of riders come out. Bikes and riders range from High End Racing Bikes to City Beaters.

monkey.jpgMany people on old bikes with city clothes rode with the strength of seasoned bike commuters. We were amazed by the number of small children who rode the whole route on their own bikes. There are three rest stops along the way. This is more of a bike parade than ride although except at bottle necks the group rode along at 12 MPH.

The organization was amazing, I have never seen an event this big go so well. They had 3000 volunteers filled with enthusiasm. They guided you along the route and at bottle necks there was entertainment. These folks really know how to run a major event. Montreal is a great area for bicycling, for information about local bike trails see, Crazy for Cycling.

  1. Hi,
I’m a designer in Montreal working on participatory collective, ecological housing, including a range of designs such as Passive Solar, Linear-axis wind generation off building wind shear surfaces, Green Biodigestion Toilets and an ergonomic bicycle which facilitates natural walking and running posture on a bicycle frame and leg- determined infinite range gearing. I owned a Rans Recumbent Nimbus for 13 years and loved it. I’m looking for a second hand recumbent again today.

  2. You will probably find Cycling Forums, http://www.cyclingforums.com/, a better place to look for a used recumbent. They have classified ads.

I only have a used BikeE Fx I am trying to sell and possibly a Ryan Vanguard that is now in South Georgia.

    • I own a cycle + shop in Bentley, Alberta, Cdn.
I specialize in recumbents. What are you looking for in another Bent. 2 or 3 wheeler?
Trades considered. I personally own a Ryan Vanguard with less than 100 miles on it/one of my favorites.
Also ex BikeE dealer & owner.
      Take care,
