The Crane

If you have two long wheelbase recumbents, you know that moving them around isn't easy. The familiy call my solution "The Crane".

The Crane is a Draftmaster Hitch Rack. It is not light and it is not cheap but it is an excellent solution for carrying two long wheelbase recumbents.

The great thing about this rack is the the rack folds down to the ground and you just roll the bike upto it on its rear wheel and slide the front fork into the quick release holder.

I had to add a hitch to my car to mount the rack and buy a second recumbent tray. I admit this does get very pricey but the rack is sturdy and well built. I've been using mine for 8 years and it definitely has another 8 years in it. The best price I've seen on a rack is $419 at Draftmaster Hitch Rack but that does not include the 2 recumbent trays. My extra tray was $100 a few years ago so I expect the price will be over $600 now.

That is a lot of money for a rack but it great to just roll the bikes onto the rack and take them with you on any trip.

  3. I live in NW Illinois and have a TourEasy EX and my wife has an EZ-1 recumbent. I assume the Crane bike carrier would work for these bikes? How does it hook to the car? What does it weigh? What are you asking for it? How for away do you live? I might be interested.
